my oh my what a wonderful day, plenty of sunshine, going my way. well not really, lots of clouds actually.
There is a growing chasm schism thang happening in this country around the issues of "christian" moral values. We have these staunch passionate advocates for the right for embryonic cells to live, the elimination of any possible rights for old people to choose to die, the demands that only the Ten Commandments be posted in public places, the refusal to acknowledge stem cell research and genetic manipulation of some human genes, and of course the support for the state to kill for them. If this reads like a list of severely hypocritical divergent paradoxical beliefs, then i have done my job. These people really do believe this; they afterall can hold the belief that what they read in two verses of one of their bibles, what would appear in the most literal sense to be in direct contradiction of one another, are fundamentally true at the same time. Most psychology researchers and clinicians would say this is in many ways a sign of psychosis, a coginitive dissonance that is irreconcilable in our daily lives. But that sort of diagnosis doesn't stop the leadership of these people from continuing to advocate for a greater and greater separation from reality.
Let's take the claim made by a supporter of the public display of the 10 commandments. Disregarding the entire history of biblical text, exegesis, hermeneutical inquiries into the veracity of translations, the diversity of no less than 37 separate renderings sold contemporaneously at local bookstores, and the notion that there are such other chapters of laws and rules as Leviticus, Deuterotomy, Numbers, and the Letters; we discover that this person has taken it upon himself to "save" our "souls from hell." How did this human being become so empowered to embark on this path of controlling the salvation of others? Who told him to do so?? Now of course, he would say God, but if questioned he would be forced to deny that God actually told him. He could never admit that he heard the voice of God in his head. That would be admitting psychosis. So he has to claim that he was moved to do so by God's will. How did this occur?
Some transformative experience that led to his accepting God in him through the God's word in the holy bible. Deconstruct this. Take it apart and discover that this rote regurgitated flippant response that so easily flows off the tongues of these folks is comprised of several disassociative factors. At the most basic levels of conscious thought process, this person must admit that they are cognitively interpreting their existence in such a way that they "assume" the existence of other than human consciousness that has the will and desire to control them. Since admitting that these messages can not come from "voices", as that would be 'crazy,' the person must confess that at some point a volitional act of their own chose to "assume" that this divinity "speaks" through the textual words found on pieces of paper. How did this person find these pieces of paper??? God showed them?? They again can't admit that for a number of reasons. Therefore there must be an intermediary, or several intermediaries, who have acted in consort to express for this person the intent of the divine to govern and control their life. To hold that there are no intermediaries, that one has a direct relationship w/ god, but that there were intermediaries who led the person and interpreted the words and guided the believer, to have a direct relationship w/ god is of course holding two contradictory truths to be true. Again, this is psychotic.
The further this person devolves into this type of psychosis the more likely they are to experience the sense of delusions of great power over the souls of others. Afterall, they hold a belief that this litany of folks--in this book they believe to be literally true, except for the parts that they don't believe to be literally true because the voice that does not tell them what to do told them that those parts weren't to be believed--are divinely blessed to hold just such power. Not only is this power the power to create a personal orientation to a consensual reality based on dischordant elements, but this power has the power to create realms that are not apparent to those who do not have the power, but yet have the power to control everyone. The delusion of power to determine the fate of others, and to be able to create salvation, ignores some of the most substantive literal textual passages these same folks hold as true. Thus once again they are forced by this psychosis to accept that they are empowered to do the work of the only person who is literally given that power in these chapters and verses.
Do you see my point? This can't possibly make any sense. That is why, the leadership of these people, who actually know that none of it is true, and that they are enjoying the capitalistic enhancements that creating this mass psychosis affords them, need to deny the rest of the population from the basic core elements of education, rational critical thinking, and observable evaluatory science. It is massively unfortunate that these same folks have come to guide their zombie minions to hold the views that the state is allowed to kill whomever it chooses--i mean don't you love the inherent insanity of imposing the death penalty on a person who gets an abortion because the fetus and pregnancy would kill the person.
